Rushall hit the halfway point of the season
in mid-table after a strong finish to the turn following
a run of disappointing results; this after a promising start.
Rushall won the first match of the season
against newly promoted Willenhall getting them all out for
73. Debutante all-rounder Shaid Riaz taking 3-19.
A visit to relegated Rugeley followed with
Shaid Riaz flourishing with the bat this time, hitting 60.
Rushall were beaten comfortably after a positive opening
partnership by Rugeley as they knocked off 165.
Rushall then gained maximum points against
Wightwick & Finchfield in a tense low scoring encounter,
148 Vs 142. Russ Coward continued his promising start to
the season taking 4-17 and Nicka Dunn took 4-34.
Relegated Church Eaton visited Rushall to
take 20 points and leave the home side with nothing in a
rain affected game. Ian Edwards hit his season best 76 out
of 174.
Games against teams below Rushall, Codsall
and Armitage, were unfortunately called off without a ball
being bowled.
A strong Blakenall team defeated Rushall but
at least Rushall came away with a few points from this encounter
as Andy Clayton 53 and Gary Reeves 47 showed good form with
the bat. This game also saw the debut of opening bowler
Aftab Ali.
Rushall took on promotion favourites Hammerwich
and were duly thrashed as Hammerwich knocked off 152 for
the loss of 3 wickets. Craig Fletcher (26) and Mo (21) featured
in a stand of 40.
Ian Clayton opened the batting at Springvale
and responded with 69 in a welcome return to form whilst
Aftab Ali showed he can bat with an undefeated 54. On a
batsman's wicket Rushall picked up 6 points in a losing
draw as they closed on 225-8 chasing 280. Ian Edwards took
4-96 bowling spin !
Back home Rushall took 25 points against W'ton
Danes with Nigel Crook (35) and Andy Clayton (42 not out)
the main contributors. Nicka Dunn took the teams first 5-for
of the season with 5-23 as a young W'ton team were skittled
for 119 chasing 196.
In the most pleasing victory of the season
Rushall chased down 158 against Bloxwich in their first
league encounter for many years, possibly ever. Gary Reeves
took 4-47 in his first bowl of the campaign and Andy Beck
3-26 as Bloxwich were all out after a promising start of
40-0 off 4 overs. Ian Clayton continued his good form with
the bat hitting an unbeaten 72 and Andy Clayton was also
unbeaten on 32.
Rushall picked up their first winning draw
of the season in the return match with Willenhall. Ian Clayton
hit his third fifty in four games with 65 and Ian Edwards
hit 58, but is still to buy his jug. Aftab Ali took a wicket
with the first ball of the innings but Rushall suffered
at the hands of Beech as he put Willenhall well in charge
with a hard-hit 38. Rushall came back in the latter overs
as wickets tumbled but despite a wicket in the last over
by Nick Dunn failed to dislodge the last man.
